Flying to Cyprus for the first time? Great. This thread is our collective "first aid" for newcomers.
Basics worth knowing:
- Airports — Larnaca (LCA) and Paphos (PFO). From the UK and Poland, low-cost carriers (Wizz Air, Ryanair) and charter flights run regularly.
- Currency — euro. Cyprus has been in the eurozone since 2008.
- Language — Greek, but virtually everyone speaks English. In tourist resorts, you'll also find Polish and German.
- Left-hand traffic — yes, like in the UK. Car rental is cheap, but the first hour of driving can be stressful.
- Sockets — type G (UK style). Bring an adapter or buy one at the airport for €2.
- Season — from late April to October. In July/August it can be 35-40 °C, May and September are wonderful.
- Safety — Cyprus is one of the safest countries in the EU. Even at night in Ayia Napa.
